I should have written to you before with reference
to the appointment of a Professor of Medicine.
I have myself retired from 'official' life and am trying to do a little research into standards of physical fitness among Chinese undergraduates, but the Registrar tells me that the Colonial Office have been asked to approach the Board of Education (Twentyman), and it is probable there- fore that the matter will be referred to you.

I suggested to the authorities here, that medical referees (Professors Elliott and Fraser) acting with you would be sufficient but apparently it had to be done through the local Government and they always ask the 0.0. to approach the B. of E. on these occasions,
However, apart from formalities I know you will do what you can for us. It is very important to get a good man, who understands men as well as medicine, since the future not a little depends on how far we make good use of the Rockefeller endowment of these chairs in Medicine and Surgery.
Many thanks for your kind note of 4th. March,
Kindest regards,
Sincerely Yours,
